DESCRIPTION:

The role of Construction Contract Documents and their means and methods of production are changing quickly. Society, the Design Profession, and the Construction Industry are also changing at an accelerating pace.

Additionally, the interest among design and construction professionals to be involved with Specifications (never a particularly popular pursuit) has been waning.

As a result, the role of the specification writer is in radical flux at the same time as the availability of those proficient in the production of specifications is at an all-time low.

Identifying the relevant issues, coping with present conditions, and anticipating the future of Specification will be the subjects of this presentation.

BRIEF BIO:

Randal Reifsnider has worked on a wide range of architectural projects in a variety of capacities from draftsman to project architect to project manager to corporate partner. His work experience includes local, national, and international projects.

Graduating from Ball State University’s College of Architecture and Planning in 1975, Randal is a registered architect in both Indiana and Kentucky.

Formerly, he was a partner in the architectural firm Reifsnider & Kleyer Architects and Qk4.

For the last 15 years, Randal has devoted his professional career to the preparation of architectural specifications and providing technical assistance to architects. He is currently the owner of Specifications Plus, LLC, a specification consulting firm.

A former President of CSI Louisville, Randal has also served at the national level for CSI on the Board of Directors and on CSI’s Uniform Drawing System (UDS) Task Team. This task team produced the first edition of the UDS which forms the majority of the National CAD Standard published by the National Institute of Building Sciences (NIBS).

Randal is also a past President of the Central Kentucky Chapter of AIA and currently serves on their Board of Directors.

Serving as an arbitrator with the American Arbitration Association, Randal served as a member of the Louisville Construction Dispute Resolution Panel and has presided over a number of construction related disputes.
